Whether you have small breasts, asymmetrical breasts, or lost all the mass in your breasts after pregnancy in breastfeeding, you may want to consider a breast augmentation. Although breast augmentation surgery itself is common and straightforward, many patients worry about the recovery. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Not only will we send you home with a detailed care packet with recovery tips, but we have also outlined a few ways to speed up your recovery listed below.
Massage Your Breasts
Yes, it may sound counterintuitive to massage a surgical site, but massaging your breasts when you’re in recovery is one of the best things you can do because it breaks up scar tissue. To massage your breasts, cup your hands over the top of your breast and push downwards for a few seconds, release, and then repeat. Do the same thing but push upwards and then repeat on each side. Although your breasts may be a little tender at first, that should subside after you’ve done it a few times.
If you don’t want to take any of the prescription pain pills we prescribe you, we encourage our patients to take some NSAIDs like Ibuprofen. These will help to get rid of swelling and ease the pain so that you feel more comfortable once again. After your swelling has died down, you can stop using them. If your pain worsens at any point during recovery, give us a call.
Rest and Repeat
While you are recovering from basically any type of surgery, make sure that you are getting the most rest as possible. While you’re resting, your body works to heal itself and gives your body the time it needs to relax. Take advantage of this time and catch up on your favorite books, TV shows, or movies.
By using these easy tips, you can hopefully reduce your recovery time and start enjoying your new breasts sooner rather than later. Want to schedule your breast augmentation consultation? Contact our Staten Island office today and call us at (718) 608-1111.
